In 1973, IHI Therapy Center, formerly known as The Institute for Human Identity (IHI), spearheaded the campaign to remove homosexuality as a mental illness classification from the DSM -- the American Psychiatric Association's industry-standard reference book of mental disorders -- and we have been fighting for the mental health rights of our community ever since. IHI's mission is to offer individually tailored, high quality psychotherapy, and we welcome everyone without regard to cultural, sexual, or gender orientation. Our skilled therapists are screened for their sensitivity to people of varied backgrounds and life experiences. With an awareness of the critical need for culturally competent mental health care, IHI is dedicated to training its therapists to provide therapy services that affirm LGBTQ identities, integrate these experiences, and support the development of pro-active coping mechanisms for minority stress.
