Cabaret Photographers: Thomas Salus In our ongoing look at the photographers that shoot cabaret, and that have been working with Broadway World Cabaret during my time here, I would like to say a few words about Thomas Salus.

Thomas and I met while standing in Photographer Corner at 54 Below.  He was hired by Scott Coulter to document an event for Spot-On Entertainment, and I was there to photograph and review a show.  The people seated at my usual table were more than a little, shall we say, in their cups, making it difficult for me to work, so I opted to stand for the performance.  Thomas and I hit it off and he asked if he might come to work with our team.  Always ready to give an artist a platform, I said yes and Thomas became a most welcome addition to the Broadway World Cabaret family.

Thomas is a rather renowned sports photographer (his work is Sports Illustrated quality) who wanted to try working in the arts.  He approaches every show and shoot like a sporting event, looking for the best shot and the best angle, and the best moment captured like ice, forever.  Moving about the room like a panther or a ninja, Thomas was able to capture the most eloquent and emotional photos of each act he shot with the skill of a world-class proficient.  And after shooting a few shows for our team, he asked if he might write a few words about one of the events he covered.  And guess what?  He's a writer, too, and, it turned out, a good one.

Thomas didn't get to stay with us for very long.  His family and his booming career in the stadiums called him away.   But I'll always be grateful for the brief bit of time when Broadway World Cabaret had the privilege of running a Thomas Salus photo story.
