His later recordings reflected his belief that music was a form of spiritual expression. Pianist Helen Sung leads an annual all-star gathering with Jon Irabagon and Greg Osby on sax, Vince Herring on alto sax (Tuesday-Thursday), Jaleel Shaw on alto sax (Friday and Saturday), Lonnie Plaxico on bass and Matt Wilson on drums to celebrate the legendary saxophonist and jazz innovator's birthday, September 23.
