Birdland will kick-off their great week of programming with Coltrane Revisited, Nellie McKay, Tom Tallitsch Quartet, and more!

September 17 (Monday) at 7:00PM

Natalie Douglas Tributes: Cher

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer Natalie Douglas will reprise her Tribute to Cher. With musical director Brian Nash, and her band of all-star musicians, Natalie will celebrate the music and magic of the timeless Goddess of Pop, Cher.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

All tickets $30, $10 food/drink minimum

September 18 (Tuesday) at 7:00PM

Nicolas King at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

Nicolas King has been performing since age 4. He was seen first on Broadway in 'Beauty & The Beast', then in 'A Thousand Clowns' opposite Tom Selleck, and 'Hollywood Arms' directed by Hal Prince, all before age 12. Other credits include 8 consecutive annual performances on The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon, Carnegie Hall, 'The View', 'Today' show, 'Liza & David', 'Sally Jesse Raphael' and twice on 'The Tonight Show' with Jay Leno.

Coltrane Revisited

Born in North Carolina in 1926, John Coltrane emerged on the jazz scene in the 1950s, playing tenor and soprano sax with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. A pioneer of "hard bop" in the 1960s, he led his own groups and reinvented jazz with experimentation and improvisation. His later recordings reflected his belief that music was a form of spiritual expression. Pianist Helen Sung leads an annual all-star gathering with Jon Irabagon and Greg Osby on sax, Vince Herring on alto sax (Tuesday-Thursday), Jaleel Shaw on alto sax (Friday and Saturday), Lonnie Plaxico on bass and Matt Wilson on drums to celebrate the legendary saxophonist and jazz innovator's birthday, September 23.

Susie Mosher at the Birdland Theater (preview season)

The Lineup with Susie Mosher is a wild, anything-goes variety show featuring entertainers from the Broadway, cabaret and comedy scenes. Actress/singer Mosher hosts the spontaneous extravaganza at 9:30pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month starting July 24. Susie's special guests will be Alice Ripley, Julie Halston, David Perlman, Celisse Henderson and vocal group Siren.

September 19 (Wednesday) at 5:30PM

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!

September 19-22 (Wednesday-Saturday) at 7:00PM

Nellie McKay at the Birdland Theater

Sister Orchid is Nellie's seventh album, starting with Get Away From Me, including Normal As Blueberry Pie: A Tribute to Doris Day and My Weekly Reader, music of the '60s, her second collaboration with famed Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick. On Obligatory Villagers, local Poconos hometown jazz greats Bob Dorough, Phil Woods, and David Liebman contributed their exceptional talents. She has won a Theatre World Award for her portrayal of Polly Peachum on Broadway in The Threepenny Opera, performed onscreen in the films PS I Love You and Downtown Express, and her music was used in Rumor Has It, Monster-in-Law, PS I Love You, Gasland, Last Holiday and Private Life.

September 20 (Thursday) at 5:30PM

Tom Tallitsch Quartet

Tom Tallitsch is a saxophonist, composer, recording artist, music educator, and former host of 'The Modern Jazz Radio Show' on WWFM. He will be joined by Jon Davis on piano, Peter Brendler on bass and Vinnie Sperrazza on drums.

September 21 (Friday) at 5:30PM

The Birdland Big Band

Founded by drummer and musical director Tommy Igoe, the Birdland Big Band features the finest musicians in New York! Celebrating 10 years at the club, the BBB roars into action every Friday, playing the finest Jazz, Latin and Brazilian music from the world's best arrangers. After work or before a show, drinks or a great dinner, come hear one of the world's best drummers driving the hardest swinging band in New York. Eric Comstock

Singer and pianist Eric Comstock returns to Birdland with star bassist/composer Sean Smith with songs by everyone from George Gershwin to George Harrison. These two masters met on the Off-Broadway hit OUR SINATRA (which Eric co-wrote), and have since worked separately and together around the world. Joining them at Birdland for a summer Saturday supper is a party where the music and stories are equally great.

Greg Ruvolo Big Band Collective

The Greg Ruvolo Big Band Collective merges seasoned New York City jazz veterans with young, up-and-coming, future musical giants. This performance will feature an exciting blend of selections from the Great American Songbook, jazz standards, and original compositions in the modern Big Band style. The group's resumes span the spectrum of the entertainment business-- from SNL to Frank Sinatra, Steeley Dan to Ray Charles, and the big bands of titans like Buddy Rich, Gerry Mulligan, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis and Count Basie. With over 325 years combined experience, this sonic event is one not to miss!

Amanda Green and Friends at the Birdland Theater

The Birdland Theater is proud to have two-time Tony-nominated Broadway songwriter and award-winning performer Amanda Green in residence with her monthly show. Amanda brings her own exuberant wit and hilarious banter in an evening of her funny and moving songs, including special previews of her up and coming shows. This month, Amanda will be joined by incredible Broadway special guest stars Jenn Colella, Ariana DeBose, Howard McGillin, Martha Plimpton, Ryann Redmond and Jon Rua. With musical direction by Matt Gallagher.

The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.
