NBC's long-running soap opera DAYS OF OUR LIVES is celebrating its Golden Anniversary and will now hold a place in history as it donates memorabilia to the iconic Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.

The sudser is now the longest-running scripted daytime drama on TV and continues to attract millions of viewers in over 25 countries each week.

Commented actor and producer David Michaels, "I applaud the Smithsonian for realizing that daytime television is a great part of American culture." Susan Seaforth Hayes, the only actress to have appeared on the soap since its beginnings, tells ET, "No show lasts forever. No job lasts forever, and yet we have been given a half century with the American public."

NBC has renewed DAYS OF OUR LIVES through September 2016.
