Ever since the announcement that DOCTOR WHO would be losing its latest 'Doctor' when Matt Smith exits the series after four years this winter, there has been speculation about who will take over the famous role. Will it be a woman? Will it be a familiar face? An up-and-coming actor? Fans will only have to wait a little longer until this Sunday, August 4th, to find out.

The BBC has cast its next 'Doctor' and will be unveiling its choice during a live TV special at 2 p.m. ET. The show will be simulcast live on BBC America. Click below to watch a promo for the announcement!

Smith leaves following the the 50th Anniversary in November and regenerating in the Christmas special. During his time as the Doctor, Smith has reached over 30 million unique UK viewers and his incarnation has seen the show go truly global. He was also the first actor to be nominated for a BAFTA in the role. Doctor Who is BBC AMERICA's highest-rated series and premieres as part of the channel's Supernatural Saturday programming block. Smith first appeared in the series in 2010.

DOCTOR WHO's 50th anniversary episode will air on BBC America on Saturday, November 23. The special will be broadcast all around the world at the same time and will see the reunion of Matt Smith's Doctor with David Tennant's tenth. The episode has been sold to 200 countries worldwide. It is estimated the televison event will be watched by more than 100 million viewers, making it the biggest global drama simulcast in history. It will also be shown in cinemas throughout the UK.
