Deadline.com reports that Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to star in a film adaptation of the John Le Carre spy novel A MOST WANTED MAN. The film will be directed by Anton Corbijn.

According to the report, the film will take place in modern day Hamburg, Germany and will follow a "mysterious, tortured and near-dead half-Chechen, half-Russian man on the run who arrives in the city's Islamic community desperate for help and looking to recover his late Russian father's ill-gotten fortune." Throughout the course of the film, it remains unclear if this character is a victim of a crime, a thief or an extremist with malevolent intentions. Woven into the intrigue are a British banker and a young female attorney who are being watched by Hoffman's character, described a "brilliant, roguish chief of a covert German spy unit, who fights to put the pieces together as the clock ticks."

Helge Sasse, Senator Entertainment AG CEO commented, "A Most Wanted Man is an international bestseller set in Hamburg, Germany, and we are happy that the support of the Hamburg and Berlin subsidies made it possible for the producers to shoot it in Germany. So that made it a natural project, we're pleased to be part in, as it not only fits Senator's slate and is our kind of movie, it allows us to participate in the production a major international blockbuster right on our doorstep. I'm looking forward very much to working with Anton Corbijn and the production team on this hotly anticipated project."

Philip Seymour Hoffman currently stars in the Tony-nominated revival 'Death of a Salesman'. He has received Tony nominations for Long Day's Journey Into Night and True West. He is among the founding members of LAByrinth Theater Company. Hoffman won an Academy Award for Capote, and received Oscar nominations for his roles in Doubt and Charlie Wilson's War.
