Kenya Barris To Receive 2019 Visionary Award from the Producers Guild

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, the creator of Black-ish, will receive the Producers Guild of America's 2019 Visionary Award, according to Deadline. Barris will be honored at the 30th Annual Producers Guild AwardsJanuary 19, 2019 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.

The Producers Guild Visionary Award recognizes television, film, or new media producers for inspiring storytelling of unique and uplifting vision or quality to our culture.

Black-ish has received a Peabody Award and numerous Emmy nominations. Barris has also created the Black-ish spin-off Grown-ish. Barris co-wrote the film Girls Trip with Tracy Oliver.

Barris was honored with the Humanitas Prize in 2017 as well as the Outstanding Writing NAACP Image Award in 2016 and 2017.

Barris is working on the upcoming series Besties and Bewitched. He's also signed a three-year exclusive overall producing deal with Netflix. Upcoming film projects Barris is working on are Son of Shaft and Coming 2 America as well as an animated feature based on the songs of Bob Marley.
