Emmy-Nominated Actor Jerry Van Dyke Dies

According to Variety, Jerry Van Dyke, Emmy-nominated actor and younger brother of Dick Van Dyke, died on Friday at age 86. His wife, Shirley Ann Jones told the New York Times that his health had been deteriorating since he was in a traffic accident in 2015.

Van Dyke appeared on The Dick Van Dyke show, one of his earliest appearances as Stacey Petrie in 1962. He's best known for his role as Assistant Coach LUTHER Van Dam on ABC's series "Coach." This role earned Van Dyke four Emmy nominations.

He also appeared on "My Mother the Car," "Accidental Family," "Headmaster," and "13 Queen Boulevard." He also played in Las Vegas, at Playboy Clubs, and on cruise ships in a stage show in the 60s.

Dawn Wells Who worked with Van Dyke on Fantasy Island said, "First to be considered for the character of Gilligan on Gilligan's Island. One of Hollywoods funniest, kindest and personable comedians. He was a JOY to work with. He will be missed."

Actor Ronnie Schell reflected on Van Dyke's death as well: "Yesterday I lost a long time buddy. He was a very talented comedic actor and we worked in night clubs over the years as well as comedy shows in the air force together. He was my best man at my wedding. I always knew he was funnier than his brother Dick. I miss him."
