Within the first few seconds of this episode, I was satisfied. Yes, a longtime fan favorite graced our screens with his long overdue presence and that was just the beginning of, in my opinion, the most satisfying WALKING DEAD finale yet.

I'll try and be brief, but SO much happened!

Morgan, yes Morgan, has returned. He has a run in with two of the "Wolves" the creators of all those "W's" we've been seeing. Apparently, it goes back to when the first settlers put bounties on wolves by marking them which involved wiping out the population. So is this the wolves plan? To wipe out civilization or wipe out the walkers? Foolishly, Wolf #1 tries to take Morgan out, but Morgan knocks out him and a surprise Wolf #2 after repeatedly warning them to move along. He leaves them safe in a car and carries on. So clearly Morgan has gone through some changes since we saw him last.

Back in Alexandria, Deanna and Reg plan on holding a town meeting to discuss Rick's fate. Maggie advises against banishing Rick. Glenn sees Nicholas jumping over the wall and he chases him. Nicholas shoots Glenn, but Glenn survives and the two fight. Glenn has a gun to Nicholas' had, but he can't do it. (I am greatly simplifying this plotline. Their fight in the woods was pretty epic.)

Father Gabriel also takes a walk outside the walls and finally kills two walkers. Aidan's brother asks if he can come see him for some counseling. He is a bit distracted and leaves the door to Alexandria open. When he returns to his sanctuary, Sasha is waiting for him and also wants someone to talk to. Father Gabriel blames her for everyone's death. A fight ensues and Sasha wants to kill him, but Maggie stops him. He confesses that it is he, not Sasha, who is to blame for all the dead. The three pray together.

Daryl and Aaron are out scouting a man in a red windbreaker as a possible new recruit. They lose him and find a food warehouse, but accidentally set off a booby trap filled with walkers. The two get trapped in a car together. They decide to make a break for it when Morgan shows up and rescues them. He passes Daryl a secret note asking him and Rick to go with him to DC.

Rick wakes up and finds out about the town meeting. He goes to see Jessie but won't apologize for what he did. When he is on his way to the meeting, he notices that the gate is open (Thanks, Father Gabriel) and chases after some walkers that got in. He fends them off and brings them to the meeting to show everyone that the danger is still there. A drunk Pete shows up to fight Rick and accidentally kills Reg. Deanna orders Rick to execute Pete, which he does, just as Daryl and Aaron show up with Morgan.

We see the two wolves arrive back at the booby trap, reset it and kill the guy with the red windbreaker. (Was this an ode to Star Trek?) Wolf #1 finds Aaron's backpack filled with photos of Rick and the rest of Alexandria.

THAT was exhausting. That was 90 minutes packed full of action. Thankfully, none of our original gang were killed. It was sad to lose Reg and Pete though. Reg, a genuine nice guy who only wanted good things and Pete was fun to hate, if only to see him curl up like a little girl when Carol threatened him.

Things I LOVED:

  • Daryl and Aaron's friendship. I don't know why, but it's really endearing that these two will literally fight to the death for each other in just the little time that they've known each other. It greatly exhibits Daryl's soldier quality.

  • Carol's transformation from abused wife to resident badass. Saying those words to Pete must have been so cathartic for her especially to watch him cower.

  • Glenn and Nicholas' battle. Even after he watched his friend die because of Nicholas, Glenn still has a big enough heart that he can't just assassinate someone because he's mad.

  • The de-evolution of Rick Grimes. And since we've been with him every step of the way, I would imagine seeing him at the beginning of this, in the middle of this and tonight would be a little more scarring and that was all written on Morgan's face. He JUST told Daryl that the world needs Rick... but does it?

  • Morgan. When we first saw Morgan, he was a good dude, then we saw him mid-breakdown, like off his rocker and now he's like the Dalai Lama. What the heck happened out there? What changed Morgan? How did Rick lose his mind and Morgan find his peace? It's almost like they both started in the same place, both went through a breakdown, but Morgan found peace and Rick broke bad, as they say.

  • Lastly, both Morgan and Rick are British in real life. Their accents are impeccable!

Lines I Love: (The Carol Edition)

  • Carol - Because these people are children and children like stories.

  • Carol - You said you don't want to take this place AND you don't wanna lie? Aw, sunshine, you don't get both.

  • Carol - You're a small, weak nothing. And with the world how it is? You're even weaker. Play your cards right and maybe you don't have to die. I want my dish back clean when you're done.

It has been a crazy good season. I don't really understand how it keeps getting better every year. I am sad that there is now another 7 month wait for more WALKING DEAD.

As far as Season Five goes? RIP to these guys:

If nothing else, we could watch the spinoff? It looks intriguing despite the not all that creative title. Here's a preview of FEAR THE WALKING DEAD:
