THE FLASH loses his powers as not one but two villains of the the week make their presences known in tonight's ep "Power Outage." Let's get you up to speed.

10 months ago, a trio of twenty-somethings watch S.T.A.R. Labs' partical accelerator go online. One of them, Farooq (played by Michael Reventar), climbs up an electrical tower for a better look. The accelerator explodes and Farooq gets ZAPPED to becom Blackout, a metahuman who must siphon off energy like a vampire.

Flashing forward, he siphons energy from the main power grid of Central City, THE FLASH (Grant Gustin) arrives to stop him, only to have Blackout siphon his power, rendering Barry just a human.

Of course, this is of major concern to Wells (Tom Cavanagh) who consults his secret computer for future news itmes. There are no longer any traces of THE FLASH or Barry Allen. The future has been changed.

Willaim Tockman (aka The Clock King, played by PRISON BREAK alumni Robert Knepper, reprising the role he began in season two of ARROW) is being transferred to prison and has a layover in Central City. Of course, he escapes and takes Det. West (Jesse L. Martin), his daughter Iris (Candice Patton) and the rest of the station. Det. Pretty Boy Thawne (Rick Cosnett) takes a shot at Tockman, but Tockman is wearing a bullet-proof vest, He returns fire, striking Thawne.

Tockman decides to take Iris hostage, West asks Tockman to let Iris say goodbye to her dying boyfriend. He agrees. Thawne whispers something to her. There is a weird shot of his leg and an empty gun holster. She gets the jump on him, there's a struggle, we cut back to West for the sound of the gun. Though I wish differently, my money is on Iris surviving this.

Blackout, meanwhile, has a vendetta against Wells and launches an attack at S.T.A.R. Labs. He siphons all the power and easily gains entry.

Wells, meanwhile, makes a deal with last week's villain of the week, Girder (aka Tony Woodward, played by Greg Finley). Wells is willing to set Girder free provoded Girder kill Blackout. It's a deal Girder is willing to make, but he's no match for Blackout. He dies in front of Barry.

Barry and the rest of Team Flash (Carlos Valdes as Cisco and Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin) realizes Wells let him free and Wells comes clean. The team now knows of Wells' dark side. Barry asks him which of his pawns is he willing to next sacrifice.

It turns out, it's himself. Blackout is about to zap Barry, Cisco and Caitlin. Wells wheels himself into the picture. Blackout's first blast knocks Wells out of his wheelchair. He charges up again and something snaps in Barry (you literally see the lightning in his eyes). He speeds over to save Wells and returns to face Blackout. Blackout again drains Barry, but the energy this time is too much and it kills him.

Back at the precinct, Iris is safe, Clock King is (presumably) dead, Eddie is on a stretcher to the hospital. Barry catches up with them there..

Final moment: after confirming that THE FLASH is still set to make future history, Wells retreats to the make-shift prison below the lab. He unzips the bodybag containing Blackout and takes a vial of blood from him. He wants to know how Blackout was able to steal Barry's power. And Wells turns the evil up a notch.Yikes.

And with that, our ep comes to a close. I thought this ep was just kind of meh --a filler for next week's two-night crossover event, "FLASH vs. ARROW." Share your thoughts below. And follow me on Twitter @triggercritic and follow @BWWTVWorld for all the latest updates, scoops and recaps.
