This week on How I Met Your Mother, we spend most of the episode in a flashback to fall of 2012, where Lily and Robin give Barney a series of challenges to try to accomplish - which of course, he does.

The episode opens with Robin crying about her mother not coming to the wedding, and saying that nothing can cheer her up, which leaves Barney to say one of his most favorite sayings: "Challenge accepted!" This is the beginning of a last year, when everyone was singl of scenes where both Lilly and Robin try to make him look ridiculous, but of course, he wouldn't be Barney if he failed.

Lilly and Robin are shown giving Barney four challenges. The first one is to pickup a girl while talking like a dolphin, pick up a girl while not using the words that have an 'e' in them while wearing a garbage bag, pick up a girl who thinks she's waiting for Ryan Gosling, and essentially pick up a girl while running errands for Lilly. The first three go off without any problems for Barney, but it isn't the fourth challenge that Barney tries to pick up someone who doesn't fall for his tricks.

That person happens to be Ted's future wife.

Meanwhile, Ted and Marshall go back and forth about whether or not Ted still has feelings for Robin. While Ted is adamant that he only has platonic feelings for Robin, Marshall is convinced that he' suppressing his feelings. This leads to an episode filled with earlier seasons' plot lines about Ted and Robin - with a nice shout out to the blue French horn and where it all stared.

The real story in this episode is between Barney and Ted's future wife, who doesn't fall for Barney's tricks. She recognizes a sadness in him that no one else saw. The woman gives Barey a stern wake up call, which ends with her saying do you want to keeping playing or do you want to win?

Which is when Barney comes home and begins work on the Robin play. Even though this makes upset Ted, as he still thinks he may like Robin, we're starting to see that the mother has a bigger effect on the group that we even thought.
