The Colony, Palm Beach Reaches Phase 2 of 'Re-Imagining'

By: Jun. 09, 2015

The Colony Hotel - the center of Palm Beach Society since 1947 - celebrated a $9-million "re-imagining" by internationally renowned decorator Carleton Varney less than a year ago. This week, the landmark boutique hotel is launching the next phase of its extraordinary property-wide re-do focused on The Colony's Pavilion ballroom and meeting space, three luxury penthouses and seven charming two-bedroom villas.

"Carleton Varney and Brinsley Matthews did an amazing job last year by dramatically transforming the entire hotel and bringing our guest rooms to bright, new life," says Roger Everingham, the hotel's Vice President & General Manager. "When the new work is completed by Labor Day, The Colony's Pavilion will be the premiere meeting space in any midsize hotel in Palm Beach." "Located in a separate building next to the main hotel, The Colony Pavilion has its own dramatic porte-cochère which gives a sense of exclusivity for many upscale events," adds Everingham. "This summer's renovations will be another total re-imagining - new ceiling, new carpet, new chandeliers and a new two-layer custom-designed wall covering. The colors of the new carpets, wall coveng and chairs are specifically designed to be lively without clashing with the color theme of any bride."

The Colony Hotel will remain open for guests and visitors all summer long, offering both indoor and al fresco dining at Polo Steaks and Seafood and Café 155, the always popular Motown Friday Nights in Polo and Intimate Evenings of dinner and dancing Saturdays in the world famous Royal Room, featuring sophisticated song stylists Eric Comstock & Barbara Fasano on June 13 & 20.

About The Colony Hotel, Palm Beach Host to American Presidents and British Royalty, Movie Stars and Corporate Czars, The Colony has been the center of Palm Beach society for nearly 70 years. An intimate, friendly boutique hotel, The Colony recently enjoyed a $9-million "reimagining" by internationally renowned designer Carleton Varney. Now each room and suite is different - no cookie-cutter rooms here - put together with a lot of vivid upholstery, unique lamps, floral patterns and eye-catching artwork, many by local artists. The result is a happy, classy feeling that maintains The Colony's traditional British Colonial foundation while making it more Florida spacious and Palm Beach specific. Located just steps away from shopping on world famous Worth Avenue, and about 100 yards from a beautiful Atlantic Ocean beach, The Colony offers guests the choice of charming hotel rooms, luxurious suites, spectacular penthouses and spacious two bedroom villas, all with the latest high tech amenities such as large, flat-screen, smart TVs and Bluetooth-enabled telephones with built-in chargers, plus comforting slow-glow lights in the bathrooms, striped walk-in closets, luxurious Frette linens, and dazzling views of the ocean, the Everglades Club golf course and the town of Palm Beach.

Sporting colorful polo-themed murals by legendary photographer Harry Benson and floor-to-ceiling pillars painted to resemble sophisticated bar drinks, The Colony's popular Polo Steaks & Seafood is the ultimate playground for Palm Beachers seeking good conversation, perfect martinis and great music. Friday nights are Motown nights in Polo with the soul-stirring sounds of Memory Lane. In addition, The Colony's world famous Royal Room is still widely considered to be one of the nation's premier cabarets, featuring hot headliners straight from Broadway and the most sophisticated nightspots in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Manhattan.

Over the last several years The Colony Hotel has won numerous prestigious awards, including the highly coveted 4-Diamond Rating from AAA (2015); Hotel of the Year Award from the Hotel & Lodging Association of Palm Beach County (2012); the Quintessentially Palm Beach Award from the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce as part of the town's Centennial Celebration (2011); and the Providencia Award from Discover the Palm Beaches, the only time a boutique hotel has ever won South Florida's biggest honor celebrating excellence within the local hospitality and tourism industry (2009).
