The Quilt Shop of DeLand and the Quilting Guild of the Villages will be partnering with the 1886 Stetson Mansion for a unique holiday quilting event Nov 15 thru Jan 15. The combination of quilting with the artistic talents of various Orlando designers at the annual Stetson Mansion "Christmas Spectacular!" will be a must see during the holiday season.
Mrs. Clause has moved her work room to Florida's most historic home where she is busy creating designs on ten antique sewing machines in the Stetson Mansion music room. Her garland, presents, and Stetson hats all made out of fabric will enhance the Christmas themed tour. The display will include a custom-made comforter made with over 14,000 individual pieces of fabric made by Cheryl Sullivan. Judy Hansen, owner of the Quilt Shop of DeLand is enthusiastically on board with the Christmas Spectacular annual event. Says Hansen, "Quilters will be drawn to the 16 intricate parquet wood floor patterns and over 100 unusual windows. It's a quilters' paradise - full of inspiration for quilting. The Mansion is a warm and welcoming place with a wonderful positive energy that guests happily take away with them. It's hard to describe." The Quilting Guild of the Villages has a special charity interest in participating in the event. They will also display 13 handmade quilted Christmas tree skirts for a charity drawing in the Quilt Shop of Deland. Proceeds will benefit five charities such as Quilts of Valor and Voices for Children. The Quilt Shop is located 2 miles from the Mansion on Rich Street in downtown DeLand.
