Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa Starts July 4th Weekend with 'Big Dig' Guinness World Record Attempt

On July 3, Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa will kick off its annual Fourth of July weekend celebration with "The Big Dig", an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people buried in the sand simultaneously. Hundreds of resort guests and area residents will join together on the resort's white sand beaches to try to break the current record of 684 people, set in Ecuador earlier this year. Proceeds from "The Big Dig" event will benefit America's wounded warriors, and will be matched by Hilton Sandestin Beach Resort up to $25,000. "This year we're kicking it up a notch by inviting them to participate in this fun, record-setting event that will also benefit a great cause that touches many of those in our military community."

According to Guinness Official Rules, participants have 30 minutes to have their bodies completely covered with sand up to the neck using approved plastic spades, and remain covered for at least five minutes. The event will begin at 7:00 a.m. beachfront at the Hilton Sandestin Beach, the largest beachfront resort complex in Northwest Florida.

There is no cost to participate in The Big Dig, but in honor of Independence Day, donations will be collected for America's wounded warriors. Commemorative event t-shirts will also be available for purchase, with all profits going to the cause.
