New York City's premier sailing company, Manhattan by Sail, returned for another season this April. Manhattan by Sail provides a wide range of public tours and private events throughout each season. Adding to their successful roster this year is the Hudson Harbor Guided Tour: Secrets of The City starting on Friday June 5th.
The new programming is being integrated into the current catalog of popular sails that will be returning like the Lobster & Beer Lovers, Jazz, Burlesque, Champagne Brunch and the specialty tasting sails that include Wine, Whiskey, & Craft Beer.
This season, with the introduction of the Hudson Harbor Guided Tour, patrons will cruise the Hudson River and take in the panoramic views of the New York Skyline, all while learning about the rich history of the city in front of them. Hudson Harbor Guided Tour will focus on the past of New York City Harbor and the surrounding areas, its role in the creation of the nation, immigration, and architecture. Now each time a guest ponders 'what's that?' they will gain insight into the vast cultural influences that made Manhattan the iconic melting pot it is today.
Patrons will be taken on a journey from start to finish feeling like they are transported to a different era; learning about local sites such as Castle Clinton, Fort Gibson on Ellis Island, New York's first Aquarium, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. Gain insight about piracy, prohibition, the gangs of New York, Jumbo the elephant, and the Clipper City Tall Ship's history.
The appointed tour guide is not your average guide - they will paint a picture of 'the age of sail' with sea shanties! Step back in time as we recreate George Washington's famous retreat in 1789 and prepare to learn about the 20's when alcohol was hard to come by and boats like the Clipper City were used to smuggle it into the city. Enter the seafaring world of early America and learn the origins of words and phrases popular today. There are so many hidden mysteries to uncover during your tour.
For fifteen years we've been taking people out sailing in the greatest harbor in the world. This is our first guided tour. It is going to feel authentic, light-hearted and home-grown. It's on board the Clipper City, an awesome boat with a great crew. The sail is going to be something any New York native or visitor, should find interesting, there will be fun salty sailor stuff with a healthy dose of "huh, really?" "No kidding" "I didn't know that ," stated Tom Berton, Owner and Operator.
