MONTH OF MODERNS To Conclude The Crossing Season
The four-time Grammy-winning choir, conducted by Donald Nally, will perform world premieres across Philadelphia venues
The four-time Grammy Award-winning choir The Crossing will conclude its 2025–2026 season with The Month of Moderns, a series of concerts presented throughout June in Philadelphia.
Conducted by Donald Nally, the program will feature new works alongside collaborations with ArtPhilly, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Highmark Mann Center for the Performing Arts.
The series reflects on themes tied to the 250th anniversary of American independence, drawing from the ensemble’s catalogue of more than 200 commissioned works that explore social, political, and cultural narratives.

June 6 at 5:00 p.m. at Broad Street Love
June 7 at 5:00 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill
The opening program will include a world premiere by Nicole Lizée alongside works drawn from The Crossing’s social justice commissions, featuring music by composers including David Lang, Julia Wolfe, and Caroline Shaw. Presented in partnership with ArtPhilly as part of the What Now: 2026 Festival, the concert explores themes of society, environment, and displacement.
A HUNDRED YEARS ON
June 17 at 8:00 p.m. at the Highmark Mann Center
A Hundred Years On, a new oratorio by Peter Boyer with a libretto by Mark Campbell, will be presented in collaboration with The Philadelphia Orchestra. Conducted by Anthony Parnther and directed by Tazewell Thompson, the work examines the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia through the perspectives of five characters.

June 28 at 5:00 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill
The final program will feature a world premiere by Nathalie Joachim, incorporating text inspired by Benjamin Franklin, alongside works by Philadelphia-based composers including Jennifer Higdon and Kile Smith. Cellist Thomas Mesa will join the ensemble for select performances.

Founded and conducted by Donald Nally, The Crossing is a professional chamber choir dedicated to performing new music. The ensemble has commissioned nearly 200 works and released 37 albums, earning four Grammy Awards for Best Choral Performance and multiple nominations for its recordings.
