Continental chanteuse Yanna Avis returns to the Metropolitan Room with her critically acclaimed cabaret act, "Yanna Avis," on Monday November 21 at 9:30pm and Tuesday November 22 at 7pm. Avis's show, which brought her to the Metropolitan Room for the first time in June, was called "a textbook study of how different French cabaret is from American" by Stephen Holden in The New York Times.

With her collaborators music director David Shenton, stage director Daniel Isengart and artistic advisor Lionel Casseroux, the smoky-voiced Avis performs songs from her extensive, multi-lingual repertoire, but this time she searches for a contemporary edge to compliment the haute couture style for which she is better known.

Backing the Parisian-born singer and actress are Shenton on piano, David Finck on bass, and Patrick Farrell on accordion. The four will interpret songs by Cole Porter, by Léo Ferré, Friedrich Hollander, Paul Misraki, and Johnny Mercer to name a few.

Trained as an actress at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Paris, Avis performed on stage, in films and on French television before reinventing herself in 1992 as a New York-based cabaret singer under the guidance of the late Colin Romoff. She has appeared internationally at Italy's Spoleto Music Festival, the Jermyn Street Theatre in London, the SIVAM Foundation in Mexico City, and the Florence Gould Hall at FIAF in Manhattan. Her cabaret shows have been seen at Feinstein's at the Loews Regency, the former King Kong Room at the Supper Club, The Firebird, The Russian Tea Room, Doubles at the Sherry-Netherland, Maxim's and the Café Sabarsky in a one-night date on November 17. Of her three CD recordings, the most recent is "Speak Love to Me," a collaboration with the distinguished music director and pianist Lee Musiker.

The music charge is $25. For reservations call 212/206-0440. For more information or to order online visit www.metropolitanroom.com.
