VIDEO: King Princess Releases Debut Single 1950, Premieres with Video Today

By: Feb. 23, 2018

King Princess debuts her first ever single, "1950," today-watch the video.

"1950" is written and produced by King Princess. Of the song, she says, "'1950' is a love song told through the lens of queerness-historically a publicly unaccepted but incredibly rich culture. Queer love was only able to exist privately for a long time, expressed in society through coded art forms. I wrote this song as a story of unrequited love in my own life, doing my best to acknowledge and pay homage to that part of history."

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, King Princess is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. The product of a musical family, she spent much of her childhood tinkering on the vintage Neve board in her father's Brooklyn studio, learning guitar and piano along the way. At 11 she turned down a record deal in favor of finishing school, which eventually led her to USC's Thornton School of Music for college. She studied there for a year with legendary pianist and singer Patrice Rushen before leaving USC to pursue music full time.

"1950" is the first song from King Princess' forthcoming debut EP, set for release this spring.
