TUSKS - aka UK multiinstrumentalist, songwriter, producer and chantreuse Emily Underhill - recently announced debut album Dissolve, due for release on October 13th via One Little Indian, and shared its title track. She returns today with the video for this single. When asked about the video, which originally premiered on Tiny Mix Tapes , Underhill says:

As soon as I wrote Dissolve, I had a really strong vision for the video of two people fighting on a dimly lit London street at night. We were so lucky with the amazing actors and production team that brought it to life and added in the ideas of shooting the whole thing in reverse in one shot with the changing lights - it adds such a dreamy quality to it. Dissolve, which follows her Ink (2014) and False (2016) Eps, builds on Underhill's towering musical vision. Created alongside longtime co-producer Brett Cox, her rich visual imagination with its cinematic enormity and resplendent detail is the work of a young artist mastering the nuances of her craft, a journey which began in her early teens.

"I'm a very visual person, I love being outdoors and surrounded by nature. I grew up by the sea and I've always tried to spend as much time outside and travel as much as possible - I think perhaps subconsciously that all influences how cinematic some of my music can be and why I love creating the artwork to go with it" - TUSKS

Rather than lead down her own channels of interpretation, TUSKS' music is an appeal to the individual experiences of its listeners.

"I can have something going in in my life and listen to a song and totally relate that song to me - it's like that artist is sharing that experience with me and creating a soundtrack to my life. I take a lot of inspiration from more cinematic music in the creation and production of my music and maybe that's why that idea sits with me more - it creates a closer connection between the listener and the record."

From a young age, her voracious appetite for music has taken in artists as disparate as Bonobo, Explosions in the Sky, and Foals, and the result is a sound that resists pigeon-holing.

It's the assemblage of all her experiences as an artist and as a person that get distilled in her powerful, glacial sound, which has been praised across the spectrum by tastemakers including Wonderland, MixMag, The Line Of Best Fit, Annie Mac, MistaJam and Lauren Laverne and nabbed her a spring tour with the impressive Icelandic singer songwriter Asgeir.

Debut album Dissolve is heady and ambitious, not so much the sum of its influences as an outward projection of its creator. It's the purest distillation of Emily as a person, and it strikes a uniquely human chord through its melodies, which are at once comfortingly familiar and refreshing.
