Tegan And Sara are on fire right now. Their new album, Heartthrob, the seventh studio album of twin sisters Tegan And Sara Quin's career, is both their highest selling and highest charting album ever. More than doubling their previous high for Sainthood's first week back in 2009, Heartthrob sold over 49,000 copies this week, debuting at #3 on Billboard Top 200 and #1 on both the Billboard Alternative and Rock charts.
In support of Heartthrob, Tegan And Sara have announced a huge North American summer tour with their good Friends in FUN. The "Most Nights" tour kicks in early July and runs through The End of September. A full list of confirmed dates is below. Says Jack Antonoff of FUN. "Tegan and Sara greatly impacted the way I think about writing and recording music at the moment that FUN. was forming and for me, that makes it extra special that we get to tour together this summer...Heartthrob is absolutely incredible and the three of us are so thrilled to hear it live every night this summer!"
Tegan and Sara have been nominated for their first ever Grammy Award this year and have a chance to take home a statue this weekend in the "Long Form Music Video" category for their Live Album/Documentary Get Along.
The reaction to Heartthrob has been overwhelmingly positive. The press support to the record has been phenomenal with outlets like Rolling Stone, Spin, Glamour, Vogue, NPR, Vanity Fair, W Magazine, Interview, Wall St Journal, and The LA Times among others showing huge support. Even famous faces like Katy Perry, Lena Dunham, Taylor Swift and Perez Hilton have been outspoken about their love for the new single, "Closer." It's been a love fest, that's for sure. This is absolutely Tegan and Sara's best effort to and as Billboard put it, "Heartthrob is an assured game-changer for sibling duo Tegan And Sara Quin... The results are often staggeringly positive." Game changer, indeed.
Tegan And Sara played a triumphant show on the outdoor stage at Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week, highlighted by their performance of their addicting new single, "Closer." "They proved their poptimist evolution does just as well recorded as it does live" gushed Stereogum.
If you haven't watched Tegan And Sara teach Andy Samberg how to be a heartthrob yet, you need to watch this. It's part of a series the girls have released around their new album obviously titled, "Heartthrob: The Interviews," where they interview past and present heartthrobs about what it's like to be them. They also interviewed Cory Monteith(Glee), Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect) and most recently, Kate Moennig
(The L Word).
