Sun Records Releases David Allan Coe's TEXAS MOON (Deluxe) Edition

Sun Records has released David Allan Coe's TEXAS MOON (Deluxe), an expanded edition of one of the outlaw artist's earliest recordings. Originally recorded in 1973 for Shelby Singleton's Plantation Records, the album captures a formative chapter in Coe's career, showcasing his interpretations of songs by some of country music's most influential songwriters while backed by his longtime road band.

Although the recordings were not officially released until 1977, after Coe had signed with Columbia Records, TEXAS MOON remains an important snapshot of the artist before he became one of outlaw country's defining voices. Now available on vinyl for the first time in more than four decades, the deluxe edition also includes two previously unreleased demos from Coe's earliest Nashville recording sessions with Shelby Singleton.

The collection finds Coe interpreting songs by many of his greatest influences, including Johnny Cash's 'Give My Love to Rose,' Kris Kristofferson's 'Why Me,' Billy Joe Shaver's 'Ride Me Down Easy' and 'Fuzzy Was an Outlaw,' and Jackson Browne's 'These Days.'

Developed as part of Sun Records' ongoing catalog restoration initiative prior to Coe's passing in April, TEXAS MOON (Deluxe) continues the label's commitment to preserving and celebrating the recordings that shaped American music.

'Texas Moon captures David Allan Coe at a pivotal moment, before the world came to know him as one of outlaw country's defining voices,' said Laura Pochodylo, Director of Marketing & Strategy for Sun Records. 'Revisiting these recordings reminds us how much of music history is still waiting to be rediscovered. We're proud to share this remarkable chapter of Coe's career with longtime fans while introducing it to a new generation of music fans.'

Chase Gregory, Sr. Director of A&R/Sync at Sun Records, uncovered the unreleased demos in the Sun vaults. Throughout the restoration process, Sun also discovered rare and potentially unseen archival video footage of Coe shot in Nashville during his time working with Singleton, which will be released later this fall.

'The best archival releases don't just preserve music; they change the way we hear an artist's story,' said Gregory. 'These recordings remind us that David Allan Coe's journey didn't begin with the albums everyone knows. Texas Moon reveals an artist still exploring his sound, and that's what makes revisiting this chapter so compelling.'

TEXAS MOON (Deluxe) is available now on vinyl, CD, and all major digital streaming platforms.
