Sam Wineman Releases New Single 'Christmas Is Us'

On Friday, Dec. 21st, Sam Wineman's new single "Christmas Is Us" hits all streaming platforms. "Christmas Is Us" is a song that celebrates the hope in a difficult time; Wineman wrote it for his little sister when he found out she'd be spending the holidays in the hospital. When he released the acoustic version to streaming platforms, it quickly became his most-played song. Now, the single is here. And for a good cause.

In early December, Wineman released his LGBTQ-inclusive album Right In Front Of My Christmas. While it's available on Spotify and Apple Music, listeners are encouraged to get a free copy by making a donation to AIDS/LifeCycle (http://tofighthiv.org/goto/samwineman). Between setting the scene for a holiday hookup or spilling all the tea on a nasty winter breakup, this Christmas kiki is serving.

Sam Wineman is a queer holiday musician and LA-based horror filmmaker whose two greatest passions are Christmas and horror films. He is one of the directors on the upcoming holiday horror anthology, Deathcember. Sam's latest film, The Quiet Room, has been an award-winning selection of 35 festivals. He is currently the curator of Fangoria's 2018 Holiday Horror Countdown. Wineman has been making music as Anywhere But My Face since 2006 when his hit music videos for MySpace TV earned him a cult following. While Sam writes and directs full time, he returns to his roots every December for an annual holiday release.

  • A New Year's song for the Drag Race set, "New Year's T" pays homage to Alaska 5000's "The T" by reading his exes to filth and reclaiming his time. Sam's resolution: "new year, new me, no you."

Artist's Statement:

"In October, I got the call from my mom. Something was very wrong. I was shooting a film in Texas and wouldn't be home for a few weeks - I felt so helpless. On my night drives back from set, my thoughts would get so loud I'd have to turn the music off. That's when this song began to write itself. I pulled over into the parking lot of a Walmart and recorded the first draft.

When I got back to California, her health got worse. I took her back to the hospital and stayed there for 3 weeks with her. We had Thanksgiving there and it was really special because she started to get some of her memory back. The night before, I told her I had written a new Christmas song for her but I didn't think she heard me. Then, while we ate, she said, "Did you write me a new song?" I said yes. "Can I hear it?" and so I got out my phone to play it. But then she tapped her chest. She wanted me to sing it to her. So I did.

At one point or another, we all get faced with the choice to muddle through a bad Christmas or take what you've got and celebrate it. That's what we did, together, when I brought the holidays to her."
