Richard Barone to Perform Songs from SORROWS & PROMISES Live at Joe's Pub

Richard Barone's new album Sorrows & Promises: Greenwich Village In The 1960s casts light on the songs that sprang from the singer-songwriters in and around Greenwich Village during that pivotal decade. While Top-40 hit songs were being churned out uptown in the Brill Building and at 1650 Broadway, the downtown writers were weaving folk, blues, R&B and rock into songs that five decades later still sound fresh and inventive. Richard's choices cover a broad range of writers, from Buddy Holly, who was living and demoing songs in his Greenwich Village apartment just before he died, to up-and-comers like Paul Simon, John Sebastian (of the Lovin' Spoonful) and Janis Ian; to artists who were redefining folk music for a new generation: Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Tim Hardin, Fred Neil.

Richard will perform songs from the album as well as other songs from the era, and will be joined by special guests including the legendary David Amram, Tammy Faye Starlite, Colin Gilmore, Elvis Perkins, Steve Addabbo and more. Richard Barone is an acclaimed recording artist, performer, producer, and author. Since pioneering the indie rock scene in Hoboken, NJ as frontman for The Bongos, Barone has produced countless studio recordings and worked with artists in every musical style. Rolling Stone described his first solo album "cool blue halo" as chamber rock, helping give rise to the popular genre. Recent collaborators include Tony Visconti, Donovan, Beach Boy Al Jardine, Sean Lennon, Dion, John Sebastian, Alejandro Escovedo, Jill Sobule, and have included Moby, the late Lou Reed, and American folk icon Pete Seeger. He has scored shows and staged all-star concert events at such world-class venues as Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. His memoir Frontman: Surviving The Rock Star Myth was published by Hal Leonard Books. His previous studio album, Glow, was produced by Visconti. Other recent releases include the deluxe CD/DVD set, '"cool blue halo' 25th Anniversary Concert". He is affiliated with the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University.
