Quebec's MUNYA Announces Sophomore EP, Shares French Single via Stereogum

Quebec-based artist MUNYA - a.k.a producer, singer, songwriter and performer Josie Boivin - had only written one song when she was asked to perform at Pop Montreal in September of 2017. Boivin, a classically trained pianist, opera singer, and jazz student, never intended to pursue music full time, but playing at the festival made her realize this was what she was meant to do. She quit her day job, moved in with her sister and turned their kitchen into a recording studio, where she wrote every day. These recordings would eventually become a part of an EP trilogy - three projects comprised of three songs - each named for a significant place in Boivin's life. Following the self-released North Hatley, named after Boivin's favorite village in Quebec, today MUNYA announces the second EP in the series entitled Delmano, named for Hotel Delmano in Williamsburg. The EP will be released on Fat Possum imprint Luminelle Recordingson October 5th - see below for artwork and track listing, and pre-order HERE.

Delmano's first single "Hotel Delmano" is a tale of melancholy surrealism, sung inBoivin's native French. The ethereal, synth-led song is MUNYA at her most approachable. "I've come to a point where I try not to judge myself and just allow my ideas come to life through my music," explains Boivin. "There is a French band named Vendredi sur Mer and I just fell in love with their music video of 'La Femme à la Peau Bleue.' I watched it so many times that she entered my dreams, once we were having a drink at Hotel Delmano. The song is about that dream." Listen to the song now viaStereogum HERE.

"I don't really understand how I make music," says Boivin. "I feel like it's coming from another world." Other-worldly is an apt descriptor for MUNYA's music. The songs are at turns playful and melancholy, as catchy as they are strange, light and airy but full of powerful emotion.
