Continuing her exciting emergence as a songwriter and recording artist, veteran musical producer and stage performer Lisa Dawn Miller - the daughter of legendary songwriter Ron Miller - follows her acclaimed EP "Hello You" with "My Turn Begins Today," a six-track set that is the second in a unique rollout of three debut EP releases. The series marks a long-awaited follow-up to her first independent album "Fly Away" nearly 10 years ago.
My Turn Begins Today, released on iTunes and Amazon, includes original songs written and produced by Lisa and her longtime creative partner Mark Matson, a tune penned by Miller with her ex-husband Howard Richman and a soulful re-imagining of the classic, "Heaven Help Us All," originally recorded by Stevie Wonder in 1970 and covered over the years by David Ruffin, Joan Baez, Brook Benton, Richie Sambora, Meat Loaf and Ray Charles. The Grammy Award winning version Charles did with Gladys Knight for his Genius Loves Company album was the last song he ever recorded.
The five original songs on the EP include "My Turn Begins Today," which Lisa will perform live in the world premiere of "Mandropause," her new musical featuring 10 co-writes with Matson. "We Were Meant To Be" is a lush, sensual expression of romantic love, while another Miller/Matson piece, the inspirational "Hero in my Heart," is dedicated to Ron Miller and Lisa's mother Aurora Miller. The other tracks are the anthem "Stand Together," whose chorus was originally written by Lisa's brother and sister Gary and Debbie Miller decades ago; and the dreamy, sensual "Could It Be I Found You," written with Richman.
Lisa, the producer and co-star of the long-running musical "Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack Show" (with her husband and co-star, Sandy Hackett put her songwriting and recording career on hold for several years due to the ongoing demand for her successful show. Last year, when she and Matson penned the high energy dance songs, "Let's Go" and "Can You Feel It" for her young 10-year-old daughter, Ashleigh Hackett, she discovered her passion for writing, as she began to build momentum as a songwriter. She quickly got to work on her own material.
"I love songwriting and I am so excited to get back to my roots," says Lisa. "I will continue to honor my father's legacy and I remain committed to the multiple projects I am producing about his life. My father, more than anyone, would want me to create and sing songs that are timeless, well written and that touch people. I'm fortunate to have the most amazing creative partner in Mark Matson and recently, I've had an incredible opportunity to collaborate with my mother who is a wonderful composer."
