Independent singer-songwriter Kevin J . Watson ( performing as KEV ) is creating digital uproar with the soulful, soaring vocals behind his controversial debut single, an anthem for love he calls it, entitled, "Mermaid Soul." Within hours it has been posted across the internet from websites, Powerful Meditations to Collective Consciousness.

Kevin recalls for us his journey from sickness to health, working with music legends such as GLEE's Amber Riley, writing music for Broadway and Disney actor Lillias White and now embarking upon a nationwide tour with his forthcoming album "Free" set for release this fall.

Despite the fact that Kev is today just made his solo debut, two years ago Watson says he encountered illness that all but took his voice from him. "I spent four years of my life battling issues with a hiatal hernia and acid reflux that had burned my vocal folds so severely that I lost most of my range, and what I was left to sing with was so raspy and damaged that my friends, family and colleagues all shared serious concern. I was at Western Michigan University, looking at the opportunity of a lifetime when they flew out one of my Broadway idols , Rufus Bonds Jr . to direct a musical I'd written with Nathan Sabo. Just days before the show, I was told by a doctor that I should consider finding other ways to enjoy music, because I would not sing again, at least not every well."

Kevin says this encounter sparked a spiritual journey that has brought him to where he is today. "I had to give all my dreams and aspirations over to God. I wasn't sure at the time if I even believed in a higher power, but after exhausting Western medicine, I knew that only a miracle was going to allow me to share my voice, so out of desperation really, I called out and would you believe that he answered? He healed my body and sent me on a new journey to share the beauty of love with the world."

When asked about the production staff of his coming album, Kevin claims he does it all himself . "It's me and HIM . It does get overwhelming being your own graphic artist, music producer, promoter, etc., but it has given me freedom that I wouldn't trade for the world. At this point, I'm saying no to all offers from record labels, managers, etc. I'm not making the money I could be doing it this way, but that's not what I'm here for. I'm here to share the blessing given to me with the world. I've made my music available for free wherever I can. I just want them to hear it. I know the financial situation most of the world is in, and everyone needs music in their lives. I don't want anyone to have to give me anything unless they choose to give it out of their hearts. I have faith in the people in that way."

When asked what is to come next for Kevin, he tells us about his coming nationwide tour and "Free." "I have a studio on the road as of now which is great, so I'm finishing up my album while touring at the same time with my other half , actor/singer/songwriter, Nathan Sabo. Today we're in Portland; Seattle's next and I'm always adding dates. I try and make as many stops as I can, and I'm not picky about my shows. I don't care about the venue; I want to share the blessing God has given me with the people, everywhere they are."
