Jazz Pianist Marcus Roberts Coming to Gallo Center in January
"We call him 'the genius of modern piano,' because he is," Wynton Marsalis, artistic director for Jazz at Lincoln Center, has said of his former bandmate Marcus Roberts. Roberts will perform a solo piano show at the Gallo Center for the Arts beginning at 8 pm on Friday, January 16.Tickets for the performance are $20, $30 and $45, and may be purchased online at www.galloarts.org, by calling (209) 338-2100, or from the Gallo Center ticket office at 1000 I Street in downtown Modesto. Roberts' respect for the contributions and achievements of the great masters of jazz and classical music has led to his innovative and original piano style and philosophy of jazz improvisation. He is also an active composer and arranger, with scores of individual compositions and numerous entire suites of music. The alumnus of the Wynton Marsalis Band has released such celebrated CDs as "New Orleans Meets Harlem, Volume I," "Celebrating Christmas," "Deep in the Shed: A Blues Suite," and "Across the Imaginary Divide."
