Cosmic cowboys, country music and outer space fantasy will come together in Brooklyn on Sunday, January 11, when the Skinny Dennis bar presents Ijon Trichy and The Final Frontiersmen.

Described as the city's premier honky tonk, Skinny Dennis is where New Yorkers with a penchant for Nashville-style entertainment can find live country music seven nights a week. However, the upcoming show by Ijon Trichy and The Final Frontiersmen promises to be one of the most unusual country music shows ever performed there, with mind-bending twang and an imaginary back story worthy of Star Trek.

"The Final Frontiersmen are a cyberpunk country band abducted by Grand Ole Opry-loving aliens to bring the traditions of Hank Williams to the far reaches of the galaxy," explained the band's founder, Zac Greenberg. "We're inspired by classic country, but this is definitely not your grandfather's music."

On stage, Greenberg assumes the persona of Ijon Trichy, storyteller, lead vocalist and guitarist with The Final Frontiersmen. Other band members include Amos Rose (backup vocals and guitar), Max Lovrin (backup vocals and fiddle), Ilan Gitter (backup vocals and bass) and Isaac Candelario (backup vocals and drums).

Greenberg, who is as much a jazz and rock artist as he is a country musician, has enjoyed a variety of musical influences. He attended the prestigious Idyllwild Arts Academy in California and, later, the University of North Carolina Wilmington and New York University. He has studied under such well-known musicians as Jack Casady, Jorma Kaukonen, Stanley Clarke and Drew Gress. His uncle, Jason Greenberg, worked with the rock band Hot Tuna.

Based in New York, Greenberg works out of his own recording studio, Taste Sounds, on the Lower East Side. He and a group of partners also operate the Almost Holden Collective (AHC), a multimedia recording studio and performance space in Santa Monica, California. An album featuring Ijon Trichy and The Final Frontiersmen is in the works, as well as rock and jazz projects.

Ijon Trichy and The Final Frontiersmen will perform on Sunday, January 11, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Skinny Dennis, 152 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11211. For more information, visit www.SkinnyDennisBar.com or www.ZacGreenberg.com.
