Pacific Mambo Orchestra brings their twist on the classic sounds of Latin Big Bands to the Eccles Center stage Saturday December 17. Their self-titled debut album was produced and released with funds the band raised on Kickstarter-and took them to a Grammy win for Best Tropical Album that beat out big-label artists like Marc Anthony and Carlos Vives.

"This is going to be a get-up-and-dance kind of show," says PCI Executive Director Teri Orr. "We're excited to have PMO on our stage, to bring a little bit of the tropics to our Park City winter season."

PMO is known for their ability to blend salsa, bachata and cha-cha with traces of American jazz, R&B, and Afro-Cuban music. And the band boasts members who often perform and record with the industry's biggest names-including Carlos Santana, Ray DeLa Paz, Jose Lugo Guasabara Orchestra, Los Adolescentes, Isaac Delgado, Gilberto Santarosa, Tito Rojas, La India and Victor Manuelle.

With this show the Institute is seizing the opportunity to celebrate the diverse and inclusive Park City community, uniting the variety of cultures in town, through music.

"The Park City Institute will donate 10 percent of ticket sales from the PMO show to Latinos in Action, which is active in three schools in the Park City School District," says Orr. "This is an organization that grows leadership and scholarship in the Latino community, and we wanted to show the students that we support them and their accomplishments." The Institute has also donated free tickets to the PMO show, to LIA students.

LIA students are civically engaged young men and women who aspire to better their lives through education, leadership, professionalism, and service. Latinos in Action students in middle, Junior High and High School are paired with elementary students as mentors and tutors. Through their service, they are role models and leaders in their communities. They are recognized scholars, mentors, and trail blazers setting the example for future generations of Latinos. Since its inception, LIA students have maintained a 96% graduation rate.

Tickets to the Pacific Mambo Orchestra show are available at ecclescenter.org, or by calling the box office at 435-655-3114. For a limited time, they are included in the High Notes Package, which includes The Fabulous Thunderbirds December 29, plus free tickets to an additional performance of your choice.

Park City Institute is a non-profit organization, dedicated to bringing world-class performances and new ideas to the community. Since 1998, PCI has presented internationally renowned and cutting edge musicians, actors, authors, comedians, dancers, speakers and film at The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Center for the Performing Arts (a joint-use facility with the Park City School District). The organization will embark on its 14th season of headliner concerts at Deer Valley Resort next summer. PCI is dedicated to introducing young people to the arts through free student outreach workshops, shows and demonstrations. Since 2010, PCI has offered a free after-school literacy program to students in grades one through 12 at the thinky and fun retail-fronted tutoring hub, the Mega-Genius Supply Store and IQ HQ (located at 435 Swede Alley in Old Town). The organization continues to illuminate with Curiosities evenings and the Saints and Sinners Ball.
