Grammy-nominated Brazilian singer Bebel Gilberto releases the Bebel Gilberto Live at the Belly Up EP today on the venue's own Belly Up Live imprint. Recorded last summer at the legendary nightclub in Solana Beach, CA, the EP features her acclaimed live cover of Radiohead's "Creep" which Blackbook proclaimed "enchanting."
Capturing a very special, intimate performance featuring the sultry Brazilian singer and and her long-time guitarist Masa Shimizu on guitar, the Bebel Gilberto Live at the Belly Up EP finds her performing some of her fan favorites rearranged for the special show. The recording features Bebel's own interpretation of "Preciso Dizer que Te Amo," a song she originally wrote and recorded with fellow Brazilian singer Cazuza, a close friend of hers until his death from AIDS related causes in 1990. The song first appeared as a duet between the two artists on Red Hot & Rio in 1996. Belly Up Live is a digital record label launched by the beautiful beachside nightclub that shares its name. The independently-owned venue has presented a wide variety of concerts over its 43-year history, from John Lee Hooker and The Rolling Stones to newer indie faves like Lord Huron, Ariel Pink, M. Ward and Thievery Corporation. The venue also provides live music fans with professionally mixed, mastered, and edited recordings from many of the artists who play the room, including releases from The Jayhawks, Cowboy Junkies, The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, Donovan Frankenreiter, Matthew Sweet and more.Photo Credit: Janaina Tschape
