American Songwriter Premieres Republican Hair's CHAOTIC GOOD Video, Plus Luke Sits Down With NPR

In late November, Nashville's Republican Hair released the new track "Chaotic Good," three minutes of gloriously irreverent post-punk with hints of melodic power-pop and heady new wave. Now, Republican Hair - the project of songwriter Luke Dick - has shared an appropriately colorful new clip for the song, premiering below.

"Sometimes I dig around in my head and there's Jungian archetypes being seduced by witchy women in there," Dick says. "And sometimes there's nothing but cotton candy and credit card bills. So we made a video."

Outside his work with Republican Hair, Dick is known as an in-demand songwriter for artists like Kacey Musgraves, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church and many others. An artist with myriad interests, Dick, also a former philosophy professor, will soon release a feature-length documentary film, Red Dog, about his life with his mother in Oklahoma City. Official release details for the film are still forthcoming.

The names Natalie Hemby and Luke Dick have appeared side-by-side in the songwriting credits of some of the most ambitious albums generated by the Nashville mainstream in recent years. They helped craft Kacey Musgraves' "Velvet Elvis," a disco-dosed declaration of affection in the key of kitsch, Dierks Bentley's "The Mountain", a song whose burnished country-rock lands somewhere between bohemian and aspirational, and two of Miranda Lambert's recent hits; the quirky declaration of wanderlust "Highway Vagabond" and sly ode to flaunting low-budget accessories "Pink Sunglasses."

The brainchild of hyper-creative front-man Luke Dick - a former adjunct philosophy professor and current songsmith for some of country music's biggest stars includingMiranda Lambert, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, and Kacey Musgraves - Republican Hair is an amalgamation of the punk and new wave music he grew up listening to in Oklahoma. The band is a sonic departure from his work on Nashville's Music Row, but still channels the outside-the-box songwriting and quirky lyrics Dick has become known for.
