SCENE at the Center, a new small plates eatery and bar to open at The Kentucky Center, has appoinTEd Scott Darnell to the position of executive chef. SCENE will be open for bar and food service two hours prior to all performances in Whitney Hall and the Bomhard Theater. The kitchen closes as the performances begin, but bar service is available at intermission and until midnight following performances on Friday and Saturday nights.

SCENE is expected to open in late November/early December. The opening date will be announced when it is confirmed.

Scott Darnell has 25 years of experience in the food service industry, working for several Louisville area high profile restaurants, including Le Relais, Lilly's, Fox Hollow Farms, La Peche and Cheddar Box. He most recently worked for Somewhere restaurant on Bardstown Road. His background includes multiple facets of food service, including fine dining, catering and gourmet to go. He has particular experience with southern inspired small plates - which will likely influence his food selections and concepts at SCENE at the Center. He looks forward to creating an atmosphere of food that blends his classical training with small-plate-focused, homegrown southern comfort food.

"The guests and visitors of The Kentucky Center are our first priority and we hope they will see this as yet another reason to create memorable experiences here," said Kim Baker, president of the Kentucky Center. "We've made every effort to enhance the visitor experience, and that includes bringing a seasoned chef on board to help create the atmosphere for a wonderful time."

Menu selections will include soups and salads and a selection of six small plate dishes, in addition to sides and daily dessert specials. Small plate dishes will include butternut and black bean tostadas with avocado crème; cast iron seared crab cakes with fresh dill and caper aioli; and hamburgers from local beef with Kenny's Cheddar, caramelized onion & bacon on a fresh pretzel bun. The menu will also offer options for children. Locally grown produce will be offered when available, depending on the season.

All items will be served small plate style via bar/counter service. Guests can order at the bar, then return to their table where they will be served through an order number system. Visitors not attending shows are welcome to stop in for a drink or small meal during hours of operation.
