Dance Theatre of Harlem Extends FIREBIRD With Fall 2026 Tour Dates

Following a string of sold-out performances in New York and a triumphant international premiere in Paris, Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) has announced an extension of its celebrated production of Firebird, reaffirming the work as a defining highlight of the company's 2025–2026 season.

After more than two decades, Firebird returned to the DTH stage this year to overwhelming audience and critical acclaim, with packed houses in Detroit, Paris, Norfolk, Virginia, and New York. The production—choreographed by John Taras and brought to life through Geoffrey Holder's vibrant, Caribbean-inspired sets and costumes—has reemerged as a signature work for the company, blending classical ballet with rich cultural storytelling.

Fall 2026 Tour Dates:

● Washington, DC — Co-produced with Washington Performing Arts at The National Theatre | | September 25–26, 2026
● Chicago, IL — Auditorium Theatre | October 17, 2026
● Tempe, AZ — ASU Gammage | November 7, 2026

Additional dates and ticket on-sale information will be announced in the coming weeks.

Described as “a show-stopping piece… danced with power and attitude” (Interludes), Firebirdshowcases the extraordinary artistry of Dance Theatre of Harlem's Company Artists while reimagining a classic through a distinctly diasporic lens.

“This moment marks a powerful return for Firebird,” said Anna Glass, Executive Director of Dance Theatre of Harlem. “The response from audiences in the U.S. and abroad has been extraordinary, and we are thrilled to bring this production to even more communities across the country.”

Originally anchored as a centerpiece of the company's New York season at New York City Center, the production's success has propelled an expanded life beyond the stage, now reaching audiences nationwide through a limited fall tour.

Artistic Director Robert Garland added, “Reviving Firebird has been both a celebration of our history and a bold step forward. It's a work that connects across generations and cultures, and we're excited to share that experience with audiences nationwide.”

More than a revival, Firebird represents a renewed chapter for Dance Theatre of Harlem—one that bridges legacy and innovation while expanding the reach of one of ballet's most important institutions.
