Combustion Collective to Present January Workshop of Avital Asuleen's THE FLOORSHOW

Combustion Collective has announced a January 2018 developmental workshop of its inaugural project, "The Floorshow," created by Avital Asuleen.

"The Floorshow" is a devised piece of dance theatre that explores the lives of six showgirls in an early 1950's nightclub, and follows them through an episode of sexual assault.

Asuleen conceived this idea after working on the Off Broadway Marx Brothers musical "I'll Say She Is": "As a musical theatre performer, I've always been struck by how fiercely talented, strong, and dynamic a dancing showgirl must be in order to survive in show business. And at the end of the day, after all the hard work and success, these multifaceted, interesting women still wind up getting cast in roles and shows that essentially force them to become one dimensional cookie cutter chorines. "The Floorshow" will explore the dichotomy between the idealized women they become onstage, the lives they lead off, and the disparate ways that they process a traumatic event."

The cast of the workshop will include: Kimber Benedict, Beth Conley, Lauren Csete, Alyssa Fuhrman, Desiree Justin, and Peyton Lustig

Details about the workshop presentation will be available soon at www.Combustioncollective.org.

Combustion Collective is an interdisciplinary theater company co founded by co artistic directors Avital Asuleen and Alden Terry that focuses on the creation of non- traditional and dance-driven new work. We are interested in the "spaces in between" traditional genres, and focus on creating work through both conventional means and devised practices. We focus on projects that truly showcase all of our collaborating artists' talents, and projects that push the boundaries of how dance, music and text can come together to make art.
