2016 New York Innovative Theatre Award Winner for Outstanding Revival STREET THEATER Returns for a Limited Run

Doric Wilson's award-winning satire, STREET THEATER about the evening of the Stonewall riots, returns to the Eagle Bar for a limited run September 20 - October 4. The production is produced by TOSOS (The Other Side of Silence), New York City's Oldest LGBTQ Theatre and is the first play of their 2017-18 Season. TOSOS Artistic Director, Mark Finley directs. The production won The New York Innovative Theater Award in 2016 for Outstanding Revival.

Set in Greenwich Village June 28, 1969, shortly before the first brick was thrown at the Stonewall Inn, Doric Wilson's legendary satire STREET THEATER follows the exploits of the cruisers, drag queens, undercover cops, dykes, hippies, mobsters and bystanders (innocent and otherwise) as they catapult toward the moment that changed the course of history.

The cast features Tim Abrams, Chris Andersson, Christopher Borg*, Desmond Dutcher*, Chris Harcum*, Russell Jordan*, Josh Kenney*, Jeremy Lawrence*, Michael Lynch*, GaBe MoRaLeS, PatRick Porter*, Sarah Smithton*, Ben Strothmann and T. Thompson.

The creative team includes costume design by Chris Weikel, wig/makeup design by Zsamira Sol Ronquillo, house management by Robin Kaufman, stage management by Jasmyn Abuarab, sound design by Morry Campbell. Barry Childs serves as the Executive Director for TOSOS with Kathleen Warnock serving as Director of the Chesley/Chambers Series.

Doric Wilson (Playwright) was a participant in the Stonewall Uprising. He wrote Street Theater not so much as a history of the event but as a record of the people he knew and the incidents he was involved in on Christopher Street in the months, days and hours leading up to the night gays fought back. The play focuses on a panorama of drags, dykes, leathermen, flower children, vice cops and cruisers- the innocent and not-so-innocent bystanders who would turn June 28, 1969 into Stonewall-the D-day of gay history.

Frequently called the "father of modern queer theatre," Doric Wilson's 50-year dedication to queer culture was recognized with the first Robert Chesley Award for Lifetime Achievement in Gay Theatre; the 2007 IT Award for Artistic Achievement; in 2009, the ATHE (Association for Theatre in Higher Education) Career Achievement Award for Professional Theatre; and the 2010 PassionFruit Award for Enduring and Continuing Pioneer Work in LGBT Theater.

Mark Finley (Director) is the Artistic Director of TOSOS (NYC's original LGBT theater company) where he has directed many of its award-winning productions including Doric Wilson's Street Theater at the Eagle which recently won a New York Innovative Theatre Award for Best Revival of a Play. Recent directing credits include the FringeNYC production of the critically acclaimed comedy, A Microwaved Burrito Filled with E. coli, and Rebel Boy Fireworks with TOSOS. Other directing credits include the OOBR winning A Perfect Relationship, FringeNYC favorites And Sophie Comes Too, The F*cking World According To Molly, and The Secretaries. His work as a director has also been seen locally, regionally and internationally including at the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival with Kathleen Warnock's Some Are People and Outlook, Chris Weikel's Pig Tale, and Michael Lynch's Living On The Real. Mark is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. His play The Mermaid is available from United Stages.

TOSOS ("The Other Side of Silence") is dedicated to preserving the theatrical heritage of the LGBTQ community through the development of new plays by emerging artists as well as revivals of established works. Their productions honestly explore the unique LGBTQ experience and cultural sensibilities in a life-affirming and respectful way. In 1974, Off-Off Broadway veteran Doric Wilson, cabaret star Billy Blackwell, and director Peter dell Valle, started the first professional gay theatre company in NYC. It was called The Other Side of Silence; TOSOS for short. In 2002, directors Mark Finley, Barry Childs, and playwright Wilson resurrected TOSOS. The company has produced over 25 main-stage shows and so many readings of new plays and works in progress they have trouble counting them all. TOSOS recently won The New York Innovative Theatre Award for Best Revival of a Play for Doric Wilson's play, Street Theatre.
