STG Presents More Music At The Moore

By:

Seattle Theatre Group (STG) presents the 9th annual More Music @ The Moore (MM@M) on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 7:30pm. MM@M 2010 brings together 30 Northwest young musicians, representing diverse musical styles, such as Jamaican reggae, bluegrass, Zimbabwean marimba, R&B and hip-hop, with a focus on cross-cultural collaboration and the fusion of musical cultures.

For the fifth consecutive year, Haitian-American artist Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR), fresh from his guest appearance at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, will serve as MM@M Music Director. DBR has carved a reputation for himself as a passionately innovative composer, performer, violinist, and band leader, and is known for melding his classical musical roots with a myriad of soundscapes.

The 30 young musicians range from 13-20 years old and include:
Critical(hip hop, from Spanaway, WA)
Kind of Blind (ska band, 6-piece, from Roosevelt High School jazz program)
Moore Soul (R&B ensemble, 10-piece group put together for MM@M)
Northern Departure(bluegrass, 4-multi-instrumentalists who write original music)
Shumba Marimba (Zimbabwean marimba, 8 piece group, aged 13-16 years old, directed by Sheree Seretse)
Leah Marie (reggae duo, sisters, from Lynnwood, WA)
Sky and David Sanoy (pop/alternative duo, Filipino American siblings from Glendale, WA)
Community mentors confirmed to date include, Bernadette Bascom (vocals - Moore Soul, Leah Marie, Sky & David Sanoy), David Allen (Leah Marie, Kind of Blind), Ricardo Frazer (Critical) and Ryan Levya (guitar - Moore Soul, Kind of Blind).

Guest artists include Andrew Joslyn (violin), Alino To (violin), Seth May-Patterson (viola) and Danah Albaum (cello), a string quartet from Seattle Rock Orchestra performing a DBR composition.

MM@M, produced by STG's Education and Community Programs department, is a training and performance program that provides teen musicians with the tools and setting to rehearse and perform music under the direction of industry mentors and professionals. Mentors coach these talented young artists through the artistic process, from the creation of original compositions to the preparation of the performance day.

MM@M is made possible by Andrew Conru, Starbucks, ASCAP, BECU, ArtsFund, Seattle's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, 4Culture, The Seattle Foundation and The Paramount Hotel.
