Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, guest conducted by Peter Oundjian, presents violinist Jennifer Koh, recognized for her commanding performances and technical virtuosity, on Lutoslawski's expressive Chain 2, on Saturday, October 14, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre, Glendale, and Sunday, October 15, 2017, 7 pm, at Royce Hall, UCLA.

Lutoslawski's work is based on a musical form invented by the preeminent Polish composer that consists of two structurally independent strands linked together like chains.

The program opens with the Suite from Stravinsky's ballet Pulcinella, highlighting LACO Principal Trumpet David Washburn, and includes Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, one of the three final Mozart symphonies LACO performs this season as part of its "Mozart In Focus" programming.

Koh, named Musical America's 2016 Instrumentalist of the Year and winner of the 1994 International Tchaikovsky Competition, has premiered more than 60 works written for her and is "one of our most thoughtful and intense musicians" (The New York Times). Oundjian the "consistently illuminating" (Gramophone) music director of both the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Royal National Orchestra in Scotland, made his LACO debut in 2015.

Koh further extends her reach as LACO's Guest Artist-in-Residence for the fall, participating in masterclasses, community engagement and free public performances. She performs in a multi-cultural "38th parallel" event and participates in a panel discussion on current events on the Korean peninsula (Oct. 9, location TBA). She also appears at two free solo concerts, one a craft beer event (October 11, at Angel City Brewery in downtown Los Angeles) and the other a performance of works form her Shared Madness project, which celebrates the creative process shared between composer and performer (October 15, at Hauser & Wirth gallery complex in downtown Los Angeles). Additionally, she makes a Los Angeles Unified School District classroom visit and participates in a discussion on artistic collaboration for USC Thornton School of Music.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), ranked among the world's top musical ensembles, marks its 50th anniversary in the 2017-18 season. Beloved by audiences and praised by critics, the Orchestra is known as a preeminent interpreter of historical masterworks as well as a champion of contemporary composers. Headquartered in the heart of the country's cultural capital, LACO has been proclaimed "America's finest chamber orchestra" (Public Radio International), "LA's most unintimidating chamber music experience" (Los Angeles Magazine), "resplendent" (Los Angeles Times), and "one of the world's great chamber orchestras"(KUSC Classical FM). LACO, which performs throughout greater Los Angeles, has garnered eight ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming.
