It's back! "Symphony in the Park " - a colorful community concert presenting by the Hawai'I Symphony Orchestra - returns Friday, May 12 at 5:00 pm. Led by Maestro Ken Lam, "Symphony in the Park" is an annual outdoor concert that takes place in Kailua. No tickets are required, but bringing blankets and lawn chairs is highly encouraged!

At "Symphony in the Park," Maestro Lam will lead the HSO in a 60 plus-minute program that takes includes selections from Prokfiev's Romeo & Juliet Suite, as well as a more home-inspired piece, Hawaiian Landscape. Elmer Bernstein, an American composer made famous by his many film scores, arranged Hawaiian Landscape with Randy Fong for the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra many years ago, and the Hawai'I Symphony will perform this piece from the archives as a special treat for Windward audiences. The sweeping cinematic feel of the piece is deeply moving and is sure to fill hearts with pride and joy.

As an added treat, Hawai'i Symphony Associates member, Louise Emery, will take the stage for a bit of fun, as well. At the 2016-2017 HSO Gala, Louise won the opportunity to conduct the orchestra for a single piece during the concert and she'll lead the HSO through Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro Overture.

This concert has been made possible by support from Alexander & Baldwin with additional support from the Atherton Family Foundation, Neiman Marcus Foundation, CPB Foundation, and the Kailua Chamber of Commerce. The concert will be held in the pavilion at Kailua District Park at 5 p.m. More information may be found athawaiisymphonyorchestra.org or by calling 94-MUSIC (946-8742).
