Free Neighborhood Chamber Music Concert Features Members Of Los Angeles Philharmonic And Youth Orchestra Los Angeles The Los Angeles Philharmonic and First Congregational Church of Los Angeles present a free neighborhood chamber music concert featuring LA Phil violinists Mitch Newman and Rebecca Reale, violists Leticia Oaks Strong and Ingrid Hutman, cellist Barry Gold, and bassist Jory Herman, along with young musicians from from three Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) sites on Sunday, March 18, at 6:30 PM. The performance will be conducted by Juan Felipe Molano.

With this annual free community concert, the LA Phil celebrates YOLA's advanced string players and will showcase a graduating senior, Jerver Hernandez, as bassoon soloist. This year's concert is the culmination of a residency where LA Phil musicians led masterclasses and sectional coachings with students from three YOLA sites, with Juan Felipe Molano conducting a series of side-by-side rehearsals and the concert. The program will also include movements from Brahms' String Quintet No. 2 in G major, performed by the LA Phil musicians.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic's Neighborhood Concerts include free orchestra, chamber music and jazz concerts in churches, community centers and other local venues around Southern California. The Los Angeles Philharmonic has been presenting free Neighborhood Concerts for over 20 years, as part of the organization's dedication to making music accessible to the widest possible audience.

Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) is LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel's signature initiative through which the LA Phil and community partners provide free instruments, intensive music training, and academic support to students from underserved neighborhoods, empowering them to become passionate learners and vital citizens.

Beginning with 80 students in 2007, YOLA today serves nearly 1,000 students, studying up to 15 hours per week at four community-based sites where mentorship and leadership training is integral. YOLA students have the opportunity to work with LA Phil musicians and world-renowned artists and conductors, travel to cities foreign and domestic, and perform in iconic venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.

YOLA is made possible in South Los Angeles, the Rampart District, Westlake/MacArthur Park, and East Los Angeles through the following community partners that share fiscal and programmatic responsibilities with the LA Phil: EXPO Center, Harmony Project, Heart of Los Angeles, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy and the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
