Chicago Philharmonic Performs DARING DUOS, 2/12
The Chicago Philharmonic performs for the first time this Sunday at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts with a symphonic program filled with stories from the music repertoire of faithful lovers and friends. Follow Orpheus into the underworld in search of his beloved wife with Gluck's "Dance of the Blessed Spirits" or watch Beethoven's Leonore go to extreme lengths to rescue her husband in Leonore Overture. Highlights of the program are two trumpet concertos from Vivaldi and Plog, exhilarating exchanges that echo each other's writing and have acclaimed trumpeters Bill Denton and Robert Sullivan pushing their instruments to the limits.
Jazz duo Art Davis* and Zvonimir Tot perform pre-concert music in the foyer adding to the trumpet extravaganza. Acclaimed composer Anthony Plog appear in person and speak.
