Burlington Chamber Orchestra Returns to Town Hall Theater, 5/21

The Burlington Chamber Orchestra, one of Vermont's premiere orchestras, returns to Middlebury on May 21 for a concert at Town Hall Theater. The BCO was founded by a group of twenty Vermont musicians, many of whom are teachers who are responsible for music education for hundreds of students.

Michael Hopkins, a member of the UVM faculty, conducts. "Last year's concert was superb," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson.  "These are terrific musicians, and although the orchestra is only a few years old, it's a wonderfully cohesive and exciting group."

The concert will feature Handel's Concerto Grosso op. 6, no. 12; Mozart's Symphony no. 29 in A major, and the winner of the BCO Young Artist Solo Competition. Critics and audiences have been delighted with the relatively new orchestra.  "The sound is broad and rich and, led by Hopkins, the orchestra plays…with depth, passion and understanding," writes the Times Argus.

Members of the BCO will return to town between June 4-10 to be in the orchestra for THE PEARL FISHERS, a production of the Opera Company of Middlebury.  "We're establishing a great relationship with this orchestra," says Anderson. 

Tickets for the concert are $25, $20 for seniors, and $8 for students and children under 18.  As a special incentive, buy one adult ticket and receive a free student ticket.
