Varsity has released the first in a four book series with publisher Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. The young adult novel, Game On by Melanie Spring, is the first in the "A Varsity Novel" series and was published by Poppy, an imprint of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

Varsity, the leader in all things cheerleading, teamed up with the publisher on the series, which brings the experiences of cheerleaders to bookstores everywhere on September 3, 2013. Focused on the Junior Varsity squad at the fictional Northside High School, Game On taps into the love for the activity that all cheerleaders share.

"Cheerleaders are passionate about what they do, and can never get enough of anything related to cheerleading," says Nicole Lauchaire, Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Communications for Varsity. "We feel the same way, and this series gives us the chance to provide an authentic voice to the fiction market. We see hundreds of thousands of cheerleaders every year, and are thrilled to be a part of this series, which will resonate with so many of them."

Early reviews from cheerleaders who received advance copies are glowing. "Game On is the ultimate cheer book. Every cheerleader can relate to it," says Aiden Willis, a cheerleader at Memphis Catholic High School. Taylor Henderson, a cheerleader at East High School, agrees, "I absolutely love Game On! It captures the essence of being a cheerleader. It is also relatable to girls who aren't cheerleaders because every group of friends goes through the same struggles that were described in the book."

Cheer fans can check out the trailer, Game On Sneak Peek, to get a preview of what's in store in the book. Game On will be available at all bookstores as well as the Varsity Shop (www.shop.varsity.com). The next book in the series will be released Spring 2014.
