The Cormac McCarthy Society is pleased to announce an international conference in Sydney, Australia, today and tomorrow, July 23-34, 2014. In cooperation with The Writing and Society Research Centre at The University of Western Sydney. Taking Cormac McCarthy's interest in place (as well as displacement) into consideration, the theme of this conference will be "Borders and Landscapes." The Call for Papers has been posted on the Society's website at www.cormacmccarthy.com.

We welcome expressions of interest across a wide range of themes and disciplines, including, but not limited to those directly concerned with the conference theme. Given that the conference focuses on an American author, but will be taking place on Australian shores, we especially encourage abstracts on the geographical spaces of the two countries as they are represented in literature.

Details including special events, transportation, accommodations, and conference fees will be available shortly on the Cormac McCarthy Society website. Meanwhile, the deadline for abstracts is October 15th, 2013. Abstracts for a 20 minute talk should be 200-300 words. The deadline will be extended until November 30 for those wishing to write about McCarthy's newest screenplay, The Counselor and/or the upcoming film. Details of how to submit abstracts can also be found on the Society website.

This conference is a significant undertaking for the Society and an historical event in McCarthy Studies; we will post more information as the event draws nearer.
