Reader Views 2017/2018 - Literary Awards Winners Announced Reader Views once again honors the best books in numerous categories that were published in 2017 by self-published authors and independent publishers (subsidy, print-on-demand, small press, and university press).

Each year Reader Views, a book review and author publicity service site, hosts its annual literary awards. The awards are open to all authors, regardless of residency, provided the author's book was published in the English language and targeted toward the North American reading audience. The book's copyright date must be for the calendar year as the awards. For example the winners announced on 2018 should have been published in and have a copyright date of 2017, except for those competing within the 'Classics' category, which are previous years books who have never been submitted to the contest before. Titles may be entered in numerous categories. Categories include children's fiction and non-fiction by age groups; numerous adult fiction categories including fantasy, LGBTQIA, historical fiction, poetry, romance, and science fiction; non-fiction categories including art, biography, business, health, spirituality, travel and writing/publishing. Regional categories also exist such as Canada-West, or Regional South; as well as Global categories. In addition, several special awards are included. Prizes range from $100 to $1,500 in cash and/or special author services.

The judges consist of the Reader Views staff of reviewers. Reviewers are avid readers and experts in their fields, and they are representative of an author's target reading audience. Judging criteria is content/originality, presentation/design, innovation, social relevance, production quality, enjoyment/impact, plot/story line, and resourcefulness. All authors who enter the contest have their books read and scored, and the books are guaranteed a review placed on the Reader Views website. Three finalists (sometimes more when there are tie scores) are selected in each category in February before final determinations are made as to the winners in March.

Susan Violante, managing editor of Reader Views, states of the 2017/2018 awards: "Each year, hundreds of thousands of books are published, and each year, more authors enter our literary awards contest. Reader Views is pleased to offer an opportunity for much-needed and much-deserved publicity for quality books in a wide range of genres and categories. Because we rely on our staff of book reviewers - real readers, not literary judges, to score the books, you could say Reader Views Literary Awards are equivalent to the People's Choice awards for books. We are honored at Reader Views that so many authors have come to appreciate our commitment and expertise, and this contest allows us to return that favor."
