Centered on the interplay between love, spirituality and violence, "Heart Chakra" (published by Lulu) by Pramod Kandanarachchi and Sampath (Sam) Dissanayake follows a teenage boy's journey to find happiness that takes him through two continents. Rohan is struggling to cope with the brutal death of his father with the help from a meditation teacher when he finds love and joy with a girl named Amanda, having a complex personality and unconventional outlook on life. To compound the disappointments he is experiencing in his personal life, Sri Lanka is undergoing a brutal war too. To escape this cycle of violence and death, Rohan works his way to Toronto. There, he meets a number of diametrically opposite characters that push him to re-evaluate his perspective on life.

"I think this book discusses serious social and psychological issues in a lighthearted way using a simple love story," says Kandanarachchi. "Hopefully (readers) will be inspired ... to improve (their) compassion, understanding and tolerance toward others."
