New Historical Fiction IN COMMON is Released

A new historical fiction from author Sandra Cooper depicts the painful relationship between a southern belle and a slave woman in the 1800s. Cooper's new book, "In Common" (published by Balboa Press), shares the details of a relationship that gave two women the strength to live, despite the evilness of the white man's way of living.

"In Common" gives a voice to the slave master's wife, Margaret Butler. The journey unfolds as Margaret sits on the porch talking to Someday, the dog, as she sips on a cool glass of lemonade. As Margaret relates the history of her friendship with Miss Sister, the reader is shown how much the white woman and the black woman have in common; and Margaret realizes that the white man believes he is the master of both of them.

"While our differences war to keep us apart, those things we have in common give us the strength to unite," Cooper says. "Through all of the trials and tribulations of living in a male-dominated society, the reader discovers that no matter the color of the skin, women have things in common."

"This ugliness was passed down from white man to white man, generation after generation, and had become the natural thing for them to do-and for us, the white women, to accept. They saw no reason to consider how it damaged the women. The white man did what the white man wanted to do at the expense of everyone else."
