Louisiana Fashion Expo set for March 10 As the Crescent City gears up for New Orleans Fashion Week, a new event is on the horizon, set to challenge racial disparities in the fashion industry.

Oliver "OT" Thomas, host of WBOK's The Good Morning Show, will host the Louisiana Fashion Expo on March 10, 2018 at Watson Memorial Teaching Ministries, located at 4400 St. Charles Ave.

The expo is, in part, in response to the Swedish retailer H&M's recent controversial ad featuring a Black boy wearing a hoodie that bore the message, "Coolest monkey in the jungle." The goal, according to event organizer Evangelist Melonie Pichon, is to feature independent fashion designers who desire diversity while valuing African American dollars.

Pichon and her company Single Sister Entertainment plan to feature African American designers both in and out of Louisiana. The event will include a fashion show, vendors and design exhibitions.

"Our goal is to generate revenue for local independent clothing designers and heighten the awareness of the importance of targeting our spending dollars in our communities," Pichon explained.  "We want to showcase Louisiana's finest talents."

Participation in the Louisiana Fashion Expo is not exclusive to Louisiana designers only. Designers outside of Louisiana are also welcome to participate. Slots are available to only 21 designers.

Tickets to attend the Louisiana Fashion Expo are $10 and are available at Eventbrite. For more information, contact Pichon at 504-296-4339, or Sinder Miller at 504-782-4629.
