Lee C. Colsant, Jr., PhD wants to know the Italian origins of his father and his family. It inspired him to write "Father and Son: A Story Visited - From Abruzzo, Italy" (published by WestBow Press) to serve as a memory of his father's life, the struggle of an immigrant family and the successes that mark their lives.

Father and Son: A Story Visited - From Abruzzo, Italy, traces the story of Colsant's grandfather and father as they journeyed from Torricella Peligna, Italy to America during the first half of the 20th century. It describes their hardships in adjusting and assimilating into the American culture from a common dream which was realized through hard work and perseverance.

"My curiosity was peaked several years ago when I realized that the existing information regarding the lives of my grandfather, grandmother and father were very ambiguous and sketchy and could very well disappear with time," Colsant says. "I chose primarily to concentrate on two individuals because of a shared dream that both Grandpa Giuseppe Colasante and his son Attilio Colasante had experienced, each in their own way; and secondly, to preserve their Italian as well as their American heritage."

"I think that if we know our ancestry, we become grounded in the reality that is ours. To think that our ancestry is explored and captured and retained by those who follow us makes our lives richer and more meaningful. To a certain extent, we are what we are because of the past lived-ancestry and our own lived-experiences. If we do not know our past, we remain in a state of uncertainty or worse yet in oblivion. If we discover our past, we live on in memory by those who will come after us."
