Leah Taylor Jefferson Launches New Book on Oreo the History Horse

Oreo takes us on a time traveling trip through the White House to learn not only about the presidents but also about their favorite horses as well. Leah Taylor Jefferson is quoted as saying, "The United States would not have been as successful without this hard working, long suffering animal. Horses deserve to have their story told, and in this day of automobiles and technology it's hard to remember how America was created."

Oreo the History Horse will be an animated show that teaches American History in a new fun way. In addition it incorporates exercise by having children help Oreo time travel by running in place to patriot songs such as Yankee Doodle, America the Beautiful and Stars and Stripes Forever.

Some of the amazing stories Oreo will tell us will include how a horse saved President Lincoln's life, Caroline Kennedy once painted her pony's hooves red, and the Declaration of Independence was saved with the help of a horse before the British could burn the White House. Leah hopes to create game apps, toys and even a White House with collectable figures of the presidents and their pets, all to help children love history.

The obsession with miniature horses is widespread from strong man Arnold Schwarzenegger to Socialite Paris Hilton. Queen Elizabeth learned to ride on a miniature horse, and miners used these tiny horses to bring ore up from the depth of the coal pits. Teddy Roosevelt's children owned a miniature horse that they took up the White House elevator.

Leah Taylor Jefferson is the author of 4 books: Fielding's Literary Africa, (1986); Fielding's African Safaris, (1987); William Morrow, Horses of the Presidents (2006) and The Adventures of Oreo and Algonquin - The White House Tour (2008).

Oreo, her little miniature horse, was purchased from a sweet family in Maryland who had a young granddaughter who had become ill with cancer. When she recovered they asked her what she wanted most and that was a miniature horse. She was given a gift of Oreo's mother and Leah purchased her in 2006. She is only 32 inches high and loves children, carrots and treats of any kind. This amazing little horse is even house and event trained, meaning she does her business in the trailer, not where the children are gathering to pat and love her. Oreo travels with Leah to book festivals and events. She has golden hooves and a red white and blue tale. Both she and Leah hope to appear on Shark Tank to see if they can hook an investor. In addition they are working to raise funds on Kickstarter to produce one episode of Oreo the History Horse that will hopefully lead to more.
