Julie Nierenberg and Victoria Brewster connected when Brewster read and reviewed Nierenberg's first book about death and dying. They both realized their commonly held intention of furthering the cultural conversations around death and dying could be well served by publishing a gathered collection of essays from lay people and professionals in the field. It prompted them to write "Journey's End: Death, Dying, and the End of Life" (published by Xlibris).

In the book, multiple personal, professional and societal perspectives provide valuable insights about death and dying. Brewster and Nierenberg compiled these many and varied quotes, chapters and resources to serve as a tool for death and dying education, professional training and grief and bereavement support.

"Whether now, in the past, or in the future, everyone will experience death from one perspective or another. But very few of us receive the training, coaching, or useful tools to prepare ourselves and our loved ones for that inevitable time," the authors say. "Our book offers readers a great variety of heart-opening stories and many practical tools and resources to assist them to prepare: to die, to support someone else who is dying, and to be at peace with the preparations they've made for the end of life."

"Readers will gain a much greater sense of what it's like to die, to support dying persons, and to work in roles of responsibility for and care of the dying and the bereaved. More comfort with the topic of death is a very worthwhile goal for readers to take away from our book," the authors add.
